![]() Inspired by the splendour of the autumn colours of the river valley below campus, not long after it opened its doors in 1908 the fledgling University of Alberta adopted green and gold as its colours. To mark the U of A’s 100 years of scholarship and service to Alberta, Canada and the world beyond, the University of Alberta Alumni Association is encouraging alumni and friends of the University to choose green and gold colour schemes for their flower beds, plant containers and gardens in 2008 — a very visible way to mark the centenary. To encourage participation, the Alumni Association is sponsoring a “Growing Green and Gold” contest with prizes in a number of categories, including flower and vegetable gardens and smaller floral displays (flower pots, etc.). Judging will be based on submitted photographs. Contest details and prizes can be viewed here. Complete rules can be viewed here.
