Burton, Eugene

Eugene Burton grew up on a homestead near Edmonton in an 
area eventually known as Burtonville.  In 1922 the Burtons 
moved to Old Waterways (now Draper), south of Fort McMurray.  
In Burtonville and Waterways Mrs. Burton ran a general store 
and post office out of her home while Mr. Burton hauled 
freight to and from the railroad.  From 1926 to 1933 the 
family operated the Waterways Hotel in Old Waterways.  
Eugene Burton and his brothers supported themselves by 
trapping and by fishing with the Lake Athabasca fisheries.
