Mr. Charyk taught at various rural schools in southern 
Alberta from 1928 until he moved to Hanna in 1954.  There he 
served as principal of Hanna High School until his 
retirement in 1973.  Among his numerous awards are a life 
membership in the Alberta Teachers’ Association and his 
election as a Fellow of the Canadian College of Teachers.  
He is the author of the Little White Schoolhouse series, six 
books on the history of rural education.  He is also active 
as an historical researcher and lecturer.

The records result mainly from the research for, and 
publication of, six books on the history of rural education 
in Western Canada.
