Macgregor Smith, John
Agricultural engineer
[1886]-1950
After serving with the University of Saskatchewan from 1913 to 1920,
John Macgregor Smith joined the University of Alberta in 1921 as its
first professor of agricultural engineering. His chief research
interest lay in soil-preserving tillage methods and farm machinery.
He was a fellow of the Agricultural Institute of Canada and of the
American Society of Agricultural Engineers, and an honorary life
member of the undergraduate students' Agricultural Club.
