Sheldon, Helen (McHugh)
Advisor to Women Students
1884-1983
Born in New York State, Helen (McHugh) Sheldon was the wife
of Ernest W. Sheldon, first professor and head of the
Department of Mathematics at the University of Alberta.
Mrs. Sheldon was the first Advisor to Women Students, 1911-
1912, and was a charter member of the Faculty Women’s Club.
Her memoirs provide a source of information on early
University history and daily life behind the academic scene.
