The MACI Complex at the

MACI was a collaborative project of the Universities of Alberta, Calgary, Lethbridge, that provides high performance computing and multimedia/visualization resources to researchers and educators. The new WestGrid project will incorporate many of the principles from MACI. The SGI complex of machines are part of the high performance computing component of the MACI project. Located at the University of Alberta, it consists of a 5 separate SGI Origin machines with a total of 236 processors; and supporting hardware and software. The role of the U of A machines, in the MACI/WestGrid picture, is that of a computers to use, for large highly parallel or large memory jobs. The first of the MACI machines arrived in the the Spring of 1998 and the facility expanded over the past few years.
