Transferring
Files with Secure File Transfer Client
As you work with the AICT research computing servers, you'll need to
transfer files (e.g., input and output files) between the servers and
your desktop machine. To do this securely, you'll need to use SSH
Secure Transfer Client.
This FTP-like program can be started from the Secure Shell Client
toolbar. Log into the remote server as usual, then click the fourth
icon from the right (i.e., the little yellow file folder with blue
dots).
A new window will open -- you're now in Secure File Transfer. It should
look like the picture below:
Within this new window are two smaller windows. The left-hand window
lists the directories and files on your local computer. (The picture
shows a sample directory structure -- yours will be completely
different.)
The right-hand window shows the directories and files available to you
on the remote server. Note that if you haven't logged into a server,
this window will be blank.
Double-clicking on a directory in either window will "open"
it, showing you the files and sub- directories inside. To move up a
level in the directory tree, click the button that looks like a yellow
folder bearing an "up" arrow. You'll find one of these above
each small window.
To transfer a file between your local computer and the server, simply
click-and-hold on the file, and then drag it from one window to the
other. (Be sure to place it in the appropriate directory.) When you
release the mouse button, the file will be transferred as directed.
That's all there is to a basic file transfer. To learn about the
program's more advanced features, click the "Help" button at
the top of the Secure File Transfer window.
