MailENV
WHO can use this?
I've restricted the use of this script to University of Alberta recipients.
But, the PERL source code can be downloaded, and modified, and installed on any UNIX Web Server.
What it does:
It sends an automatic EMail message to a web owner everytime someone accesses a page
Is that useful?
Well, not for really busy web pages. You'd get WAYYY to much email.
You'd be better off with a Counter Program, which would keep LOGs for you, rather than spewing tons of EMail -- In fact, I'll blacklist you without warning if it's used excessively.
Why build such a goofy thing?
- 'Cause someone asked.
- It demonstrates a few concepts:
- Retrieving data from the URL reference
- How to reference Standard Environment Variables
- How to redirect from one cgi script to another
How do you use it?
"Attach it" to any GIF call on your web page.
For example:
<img src="myspecial.gif">
after:
<img src="http://www.ualberta.ca/htbin/MailENV?myuserid@ualberta.ca&http://www.ualberta.ca/~yourid/myspecial.gif">
ALL ONE LINE!!
