Fraternities and sororities have a rich and successful history at the University of Alberta.  With over 75 years of tradition, the fraternities and sororities on our campus offer a great number of benefits to their membership.  Members develop leadership and interpersonal skills; they are provided with academic programming and opportunities to create lifelong friendships.  Through the creation of a community, these engagement opportunities enhance the university experience tremendously.

2010-2011 was a very positive year for Greek involvement, with over 500 U of A students involved in Fraternity and Sorority life and contributing time outside of the classroom to 45 community groups. Your efforts resulted in more than 12,600 hours of community service and more than $127,500 donated to local charities, more than doubling your contributions from just two years ago. I know that you and your chapters will continue to build on these successes in 2011-2012, and I look forward to being a part of that.

I encourage all of you to continue striving towards becoming chapters of excellence, and to recruit those members that will live your values and represent your organizations with pride.  Best of luck with recruitment this fall and in your activities throughout the year!
