The Rexall Foundation
The Hope Foundation of Alberta is pleased to acknowledge the tremendous support it has received from the Rexall Foundation.
The Rexall group of pharmacies is committed to investing in local communities and, to that end, created the Rexall Foundation
to provide funding to community-based health programs and initiatives. The Hope Foundation of Alberta received $3,000 from the
Rexall Foundation to launch its first-ever Chronic Pain Support Group for Edmonton and area residents. The first such group was
offered in the Fall of 2010 and as of this writing (October 28, 2011) we have gone on to offer
six more support groups benefitting 56 individuals and our eighth such group is in
the planning stages. To say we were surprised at the demand for these groups is an understatement! We could not have addressed
this demand without the support and encouragement we received from the Rexall Foundation.
The funding provided to us by the Rexall Foundation was used to print and distribute our first-ever Chronic Pain Support Group
brochures. Rexall funding also allowed the Hope Foundation of Alberta to offset the cost of providing two registered psychologists
to facilitate these unique support groups and to provide guided activities to participants. Their generosity meant that the
Hope Foundation of Alberta could offer chronic pain support groups at no charge to participants. Since many people coping with
chronic pain live on fixed incomes, are unemployed or under-employed or have physical disabilities that limit their ability to
obtain gainful employment, these free sessions allowed them to participate without incurring additional financial hardship.
The Chronic Pain Support Groups consisted of a maximum of eight adult participants per group who attended six weekly meetings
of lasting two hours. These psychologist led groups explored the personal experiences of adults living with chronic pain,
provided a forum to share suggestions and tips and included activities designed to encourage participants to intentionally utilize
hope language, principles and practices so that they might have an opportunity to live fuller, more rewarding lives.
The Hope Foundation of Alberta extends its sincere thanks to the Rexall Foundation – Partners in Making Hope Possible.
