One of the most hopeful signs of today
is the renewal of thinking about hope.
Leon Putman

The Hope Foundation of Alberta, a joint university/community venture, was founded to engage in disciplined inquiry relative to the experience commonly called "hope" and to apply that understanding to aiding in situations of adversity.

Why "Hope?"

Whether viewed as a human need, a biological life force, a mental perspective, or an external pull to transcend self, hope is capable of changing individual lives. It enables individuals to envision a future in which they are willing to participate. Without hope, the professional is impotent to influence learning, adjustment, or recovery. Hope is therefore unquestionably a distinctive and important phenomenon worthy of theoretical, empirical, and experiential investigation.

Benefits

The Hope Foundation of Alberta wishes to encourage research from a variety of perspectives and is inviting inquiries and ideas from you. Should you be interested in pursuing disciplined inquiry which is consistent with the mandate of the Hope Foundation, the benefits to you would include:

  • opportunity for guidance relative to methodology

  • a place to study and read
  • an online resource database

In some instances, it may also be possible to offer:

  • existing data for further analysis
  • opportunity for dissemination of your findings
  • partnerships with the community
  • small grants and scholarships
  • research space or equipment

The Hope Foundation welcomes inquiries about any topic potentially related to the concepts of hope. Creative projects are welcome. It is open to any methodological approach which is congruent with the Guiding Principles for Disciplined Inquiry as outlined by our organization.
