Administrative Licence Suspensions (March 1998):
On February 5, 1998, Rob Lougheed, MLA for Cloverbar-Fort Saskatchewan presented our petition for immediate administrative licence suspension to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
Thank you to everyone who worked so hard collecting signatures. In just two weeks we were able to gather more than 5,300 signatures.
Our hope is that htis show of support will encourage the Alberta Government to include this imporatnat safety initiative when it comes time to amend the Traffic Safety Act which is on the agenda for this sitting of the Legislative Assembly.
And thank you to everyone who wrote letters to Walter Paszkowski, Minister of Transportation and Utilities. Every letter you write helps. Please continue to write letters to: Mr. Paszkowski, the Premier, your MLA and your local newspaper.
In the nine years that PAID has been lobbying for administrative licence suspensions, it is conservatively estimated that more than 1,000 Albertans have been killed and thousands more injured in impaired driving related crashes.
