Len Sager Memorial Award

In 1992, PAID/REID established the Len Sager Memorial Award in memory of Len who at the age of 23 was killed by an impaired driver in 1980, and in honor of his father Jack Sager, a longtime and tireless, hardworking member of the board of directors.

Grade 12 students who have worked to prevent impaired driving tragedies in their community and are going to further their education at a college or university are eliglible to apply for a $500 award. One is given to a southern Alberta student and one to a northern Alberta student.

Applicants must:

  1. Be an Alberta resident, as defined by Alberta Heritage Scholarship Fund regulations.
  2. Be in their graduating year.
  3. Be enrolled in a minimum of three full-time courses at a post-secondary institution in Alberta in the term immediately following their graduation.
  4. Display a commitment to promoting awareness about the problem of impaired driving.
  5. Show involvement in community or school anti-impaired driving activities, societies and/or clubs.


Application and selection:

A committee composed of PAID/REID board members will select the award recipients based on the above criteria. Applications must be sent directly to the Award Committee.

PART IV - Character references
 

Please include two (2) letters of reference. Ensure that each letter is in an envelope sealed by the person giving the reference, and that the letter writer provides the following: Name, address, phone number, and his/her relationship to you (staff advisor, teacher, employer, etc.)
