In Memory of Mikey Semotiuk
![]()
Four-year-old Michael Semotiuk was killed when his parents' car was broadsided by another vehicle about 2 a.m. April 11, 1998 in Leduc.
Michael's 22-year-old mother Jennifer was treated and released from hospital after the crash. Her fiance Ryan DeCoursey, 21, was critically injured. As a result of the crash Ryan lost a kidney and his spleen.
The crash happened in the centre of Leduc right after 50 street started to fill with patrons from bars and nightclubs shutting down for the evening.
According to Leduc RCMP, an eastbound car failed to stop at a stop sign and hit the car carrying Michael and his parents. The impact of the crash sent the car into the yard of a corner house tearing through trees and shrubs.
On Oct. 13 Donald Michael Payne, 31, pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing death and two charges of impaired driving causing bodily harm. He was sentenced to three years in jail for killing Michael and injuring his parents.
To honour his memory and to raise awareness about the tragic consequences of impaired driving, Ken has dedicated the Muscle Car Memories Calendar to Mikey with proceeds from the sale of the calendar going to PAID/REID's video project.
We're sorry, calendars are no longer available for sale.
