Summary

Learning First is submitted respectfully to the University

of Alberta learning community and the Department of

Advanced Education and Career Development for the

purpose of providing

 

  • a summary of the components pertaining to the technology integration that have already been completed or are imminent at the University, including a description of accomplishments, faculty expertise and related equipment holdings;

 

  • a sense of the direction that the University will take over the next few years in the area of technology integration including a number of activities which the University will undertake using its own funding sources;

 

  • a description of the twenty-eight (28) proposals to be undertaken or being planned using the Learning Enhancement Envelope (1996/97, 1997/98), a description of thirty-nine (39) enhancements (1996/97, 1997/98) to be undertaken or being planned using the Infrastructure Renewal Envelope, as well as a description of the three (3) proposals submitted under the Curriculum Redevelopment Fund (1996/97), all including a sense of how each proposal or initiative is relevant within the context of the accomplishment already in place;

 

  • an indication of how the proposals and initiatives relate to the goals, principles and funding categories of the LEE and IRE; measures by which performance and outcomes of LEE proposals can be judged;

 

  • an outline of organizational structures in place which position the University as a leader in planning and managing technology-enhanced learning;

 

  • key issues which must be addressed in terms of the University shaping the learning environment, and guiding its intelligent and appropriate use of technology; and, background information regarding the University's technology infrastructure.
