For 100 years, St. Stephen’s College and its predecessors, Alberta College South and Robertson College, have offered theological education on the campus of the University of Alberta. For many years, the original college building offered accommodation to university students from all faculties. It also served as a convalescent hospital in WWI and a military training centre in WWII. Though affiliated with the United Church of Canada, St. Stephen’s relationships with other faculties and schools on the campus and in the broader community have always affirmed its non-denominational charter. Its students have come from many different faith backgrounds and have worked around the world. Today, thanks to the development of distance education and a partnership with the International University of the Caribbean, in Kingston, Jamaica, courses are available far beyond the campus boundaries.
Ever-Widening Circles tells the stories, not only of the college and the theological students and faculty who have worked there, but also of the high school, university and nursing students who, for many years, called the college residence home.
“Ever-Widening Circles is compelling and filled with fascinating information and details about St. Stephen's…some amazing research work… a wonderfully readable book that will be of interest to many in the general public.”
Debbie Marshall, writer and editor, author – Give Your Other Vote to the Sister
“A terrific job in researching the vast amount of material and presenting it in a readable way.”
Rev. Dr. Vern Wishart, author – What Lies Behind the Picture?

TAKE CARE: MID-CAREER STRETCH!
May 4 - 6, 2010
Facilitated by Rev. Dr. Andrew Irvine
at Star of the North Retreat Centre in St. Albert, AB
Presented by
The Centre for Clergy Care & Congregational Health
in partnership with St. Stephen’s College
Sponsored by the Beatty Ryckman Trust
Mid-Career Stretch!
We all need time - time to dream dreams and have renewed vision. When was the last time you had opportunity to dream and imagine what could be? Research has shown that as clergy approach the decade mark in their ministry, a time of reflection and refocus is often needed. The sparks of newness have faded and the finish line seems far off. Issues of mid-life begin to creep in. The Centre offers this event for ordered clergy and diaconal ministers, and designated lay ministers in their 8th, 9th or 10th year of pastoral ministry or in the midst of their mid-life years. Come and experience time with colleagues, consider your journey and equip yourself to continue with renewed vitality and self-awareness!
Event Facilitator:
Andrew Irvine is the Director of the Centre for Clergy Care and Congregational Health and the Toronto School of Theology’s Doctor of Ministry program. Andrew also teaches Pastoral Theology at Knox College. Andrew’s interests include issues of leadership and pastoral ministry, the well-being of clergy, congregational studies and small church ministry.
