Events with Physical Activity
Student groups organize a variety of events that involve physical activity, ranging from fitness classes to ski & snowboard trips. Due to the increased risk of injury, physical activity events are high-risk events.
Groups that host events with physical activity are required to have the following:
- Primary and Secondary Event Organizers.
- Risk Assessment Plan and Emergency Action Plan. These are required for all high-risk events and help groups prepare for worst-case scenarios and emergencies.
- First Aid Kit on-site.
- Description of the activities (if unique).
- Incident Report Form on-site.
- Insurance.
- Waivers and/or Informed Consent Forms signed by all participants. These documents will be created by the Student Life Team to be administered by the student group.
Examples of Physical Activity:
- Yoga
- Events held at other facilities (i.e. trampoline parks, fitness facilities, laser tag, etc.)
- Running
- Hiking or camping
- "Amazing Race" style events
- Scavenger Hunts
- Dodgeball
- Soccer, basketball, volleyball, cricket, football, badminton, etc.
- Skating and curling
- Dance
Ski & Snowboard Trips
Ski and snowboard trips usually involve all three high-risk categories: travel, physical activity, and alcohol.
Due to the risk level associated with these trips, student groups are encouraged to book their trip with a touring company. Touring companies have appropriate insurance in place to cover ski and snowboard activities, travel, and alcohol. The touring company will organize everything, including hotels/accommodations, travel, and lift tickets.
More information on events with physical activity can be found in Event Organizer Training.
