A suite of sites within the ESSFmk 02, ESSFmk 03 site series were surveyed in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s as part of a BEC sampling program. Two sites from the ESSFmk02 ("02-poor") and two from the ESSFmk 03 ("03-mesic") were selected and re-sampled by members of the Bulkley Valley Research Centre in 2007 (see figure below). Data from the early surveys (1970/80's) were made available by the Ministry of Forests for these two repeated "02-poor" sites as well as two additional sites (n=4 for survey 1). The early data from the two repeated "03-mesic" sites were complemented by 4 additional sites (n=6 for survey 1) and data from 9 "01-rich" sites were also made available (n=9) (see tables below for summary).

Vegetation Data

Site descriptions followed standard Ministry of Forests protocol (Province of British Columbia 1998) and included vegetation surveys (% cover by species) in a 10m radius plot.

Soil Chemistry Data

Soil pits were dug to classify soil and a sample from each horizon was removed for chemical analysis within a subset of sites. The table to the left illustrates the sample size for soil chemistry analysis for each site/year and the table below contains a subset of the data contained in this dataset. NOTE: This data has not been used for analysis due to the very small sample sizes currently available.

Environmental Data

Data on topography (slope, slope position, aspect, elevation) and soil physical characteristics (rooting depth etc.) were measured on all sites
