Actuarial Examinations:
The Actuarial Science Program at the University of Alberta prepares undergraduate students to write up to and including the fourth Society of Actuaries preliminary examination. Students are strongly encouraged to attempt examinations concurrent to their studies at the University.
The Actuarial Science program went through an important change that took effect in the 2008/2009 school year, wherein students will have to have completed a minimum of 2 actuarial exams prior to convocation to receive a degree in actuarial sciences.

VEE - Validation by Educational Experience:
The Society of Actuaries allows students to obtain credits for certain exams by obtaining a minimum of B- in specific courses.
- VEE Economics: Econ 101 or 281 AND Econ 102 or 282
- VEE Corporate Finance: Fin 301 or 501

VEE Applied Statistical Methods:
Stat 378 or 578 AND
Stat 479 or 503 or 679. Alternatively, Econ 399
AND Mgtsc 405

Effective September 2010, the BSc with Specialization in Actuarial Sciences has been temporarily suspended until further notice. A direct alternative that will allow you to complete all the courses required for the actuarial exams as well as the VEE accreditations is:
Honors in Statistics
With an Honours in Statistics, you may ask permission to take Business courses and thus completing the requirements for VEE Finance.

Another alternative is to take a Math/Finance degree (this degree is very similar to the actuarial degree).
