The AIZEN^© Film Festival, which is held with the annual AIZEN International Conference, is dedicated to bringing to the academic and local communities the very best of the Naturalist film at no cost. This general film classification refers to two distinct types of film productions: the film adaptation of a Naturalist literary work, such as Carné’s Thérèse Raquin (1953) and Steven’s A Place in the Sun (1951), or an original work which appropriates the Naturalist ideology, such as Eisenstein’s Potemkin (1922) and Rich’s Straight Out of Brooklyn (1991).

         The Film Festival coordinators, Robert Singer and Anna Gural-Migdal, generally schedule films related to an AIZEN conference presentation, such as a showing of two films by the American filmmaker, Larry Cohen: Black Caesar (1973) and Original Gangstas (1996), which complimented the presentation and discussion of Tony Williams’ new book Larry Cohen: The Radical Allegories of an Independent Filmmaker. The conference participants were then honored by the special appearance of Larry Cohen himself.

         The conference coordinators feel that it is important to note that AIZEN is the only organization which has dedicated itself to the study of Naturalist film as well as literature.          Le Festival du Cinéma Naturaliste qui a lieu en même temps que le Colloque International AIZEN, a pour but de faire découvrir aux membres de la communauté académique les meilleurs films naturalistes. Le choix des films se partage entre deux types de productions: d’une part des adaptations filmiques d’oeuvres littéraires naturalistes telles que Thérèse Raquin (1953) de Carné ou A Place in the Sun (1951) de Steven; d’autre part, des films originaux inspirés de l’idéologie naturaliste comme Le Cuirassé Potemkine (1922) de Eisenstein ou Straight Out of Brooklyn (1991) de Rich.

         Les organisateurs du Festival du Cinéma Naturaliste, Robert Singer et Anna Gural-Migdal, mettent en général au programme des films sur lesquels travaillent les chercheurs qui participent au Colloque AIZEN. Par exemple, la présentation de deux films du cinéaste américain Larry Cohen, Black Caesar (1973) et Original Gangstas (1996), lors du congrès se déroulant à Los Angeles a permis à Tony Williams d’illustrer la présentation de son livre sur Cohen: The Radical Allegories of an Independent Filmmaker, et de discuter de l’oeuvre du cinéaste en sa présence.

         L’AIZEN est la seule association au monde, qui se dédie à l’étude du cinéma et de la littérature naturalistes.
