Un Chien andalou (Luis Buñuel, 1929, France/Spain; 45 min., silent/muet)
Made in collaboration with Salvador Dali, this early film by Buñuel anticipates his later style in its exaltation of erotic desire. The oniric imagery of this classic, including severed hands and rotting donkeys, creates a poetic illusion of reality that has no equal in film history.
