Toronto Globe and Mail:
"Prochazka's passionate performance of the Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 36 and her gorgeous sound make this work the high point of the disc"

Ottawa Citizen:
"cellist and pianist sparkle in demanding program"...
"The musical values are what really count and on Friday they were countless"...
"..it was a fine performance (Brahms E minor sonata), one that frequently soared..."
"There's little left to say about the Brahms F major sonata that ended the program as I've already used up my quota of superlatives for this week and the next..."

Edmonton Journal:
"Prochazka plays with great physicality..."
"the two fast movements bristled with sheer exhuberance of her playing."
"Her take on the slow movements was poetic.."

    About TANYA MARY PROCHAZKA

Tanya was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1952 and began playing the cello at age 7.

Her grandfather was Albert Coates, famous conductor of the Kirov Opera in St. Petersburg and the London Symphony Orchestra.

In 1969 Tanya won the Australian Broadcasting Commission's National Instrumental and Vocal Competition, and the following year appeared as a soloist with the Melbourne and Sydney Symphony Orchestras, and with the Australian Youth Orchestra in Japan and the Philippines. From 1970 to 1973 Tanya was a student of Andre Navarra at the Paris Conservatoire. During this period she won the Suggia Prize in London and twice visited the summer courses at the Academia Chigiana in Sienna, Italy, and the Academie Maurice Ravel in St. Jean-de-Luz, France. In 1972 she was a prize winner at the International Tribune of Young Interpreters in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, and performed as a soloist in that country. In 1973 Tanya Prochazka graduated in cello and chamber music from the Paris Conservatoire, and subsequently gave recitals in France, England, and at the Sofia Festival, Bulgaria. She also returned briefly to Australia to perform as a recitalist and soloist with orchestra.

In 1974 Tanya Prochazka moved to Vienna. She became a member of various chamber music ensembles including Ensemble I, the Clemencic Consort and Capella Academica, and performed throughout Europe and the Middle East. It was with Ensemble I that she performed most extensively, and recorded for radio in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France and Holland. She was a prize winner at the Gaspar Cassado International Cello Competition in Florence, Italy in 1975. In 1976 Tanya undertook further studies with Janos Starker in Bloomington, Indiana, and later that year she was appointed "Artist in Residence", as cellist of Ensemble I, at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne Australia, for two years. This was a period of numerous concerts and recordings as a chamber musician and soloist, in Europe as well as Australia.

In 1978 Tanya was a semifinalist at the Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow, again played recitals in Australia, and the same year collaborated with Salvatore Accardo and Bruno Giuranna in Asolo, Italy. The same year she settled in London, where her musical activities were extremely varied. They included chamber music with Lontano, the Sirius Ensemble, the Florestan piano trio, cello and piano recitals, and work as principal cello in various chamber orchestras including the Scottish Baroque Ensemble, the London Mozart Players and the English Sinfonia. She also broadcast as recitalist, chamber musician and soloist with orchestra for the BBC and played in the Philharmonia Orchestra and for the Royal Shakespeare Company. She taught at the Royal Academy of Music and at the Guildhall School of Music. In August 1986 she was a professor at the 3rd Anglo-French Music Course in Martel, France.

Since her arrival in Edmonton, Canada, in 1986, Tanya has performed in Canada, USA, Germany, UK, Russia and Australia. She performs frequently for the CBC. Tanya has performed concertos with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and the Alberta Baroque Ensemble. She collaborates in sonata repertoire with pianists Stephane Lemelin, Joseph Fridman, Janet Scott-Hoyt and Angela Cheng. She teaches at the University of Alberta and Alberta College. Tanya freelances in chamber and symphony orchestras in Edmonton and Banff. She plays regularly with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and in 1999 was again featured as a soloist, performing two concerti and a gamba solo with this orchestra.

In 1997 Tanya was appointed Artist-in-Residence at the University of Alberta, in 1998 she was appointed Assistant Professor and in 2001 she was appointed Associate Professor:
