WELCOME TO Aligarh Summer University to provide better educational opportunities to AMU students |
||||||||
The ProgramThe Summer University is normally held at AMU at the end of the hot season in October and November each year, but some courses may be offered after New Year. The program, when finalized, is displayed on the bulletin boards of various teaching Departments and the Women's College in the month of August. In addition, the final program and updates on the Summer University are regularly posted on the this website ( http://www.ualberta.ca/~asada )and the Yahoo Group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/summer-university. Instructors and students interested in participating in the SU program are requested to check this site regularly for current information. Courses are normally run for six days (3 hr lectures per day) and Workshops on special topics are given for three days. Lectures are usually held at the Mathematics Department but the venue may change depending on the enrollment and requirements of individual courses. Some medical courses may be given in the Medical College. At the end of each course, a short test is given, and only outstanding students in each course are awarded Summer University certificates. The certificates are sent to the host Department in Aligarh the month of January the following year. Teaching work is not interrupted by any holiday that might fall within the duration of a Course. InstructorsWe would welcome qualified instructors holding advanced degrees from western Universities who would be willing to participate in this program. If you have teaching or research experience in the west that you feel would be useful, and have a desire to help young Aligarh students in a tangible manner, kindly contact the Program Coordinator. There is every indication that this volunteer effort is being widely appreciated by our community in India and abroad. StudentsThere is no registration fee for the Summer University courses but all students must be registered before the closing date. The Registration Form should be filled out and returned by e-mail. Students who do not have access to e-mail can send the required information by air mail. Students who are not properly registered will not be eligible for the award of certificates. Unauthorized persons will not be allowed to attend classes. The Summer University program strongly believes in providing fair opportunity to every Aligarh student regardless of religion, race, sex or national origin. For further information, please contact the Program Coordinator. Photos (top to bottom): Drs I. Habib, T. Rizvi, S. Jameel, T. Haqqi, A. Ahmed. Some Summer University students.
