Call for Instructors
The 6th Aligarh Summer University will be held in Aligarh between the
months of August and December 2004. This is an invitation to all qualified
alumni and friends of Aligarh to come forward and participate in this
educational program.
The Summer University aims to provide better education and opportunities
to young AMU students. When we look around the world today and witness
the plight of our people, we realize instantly that many of these problems
originate in the lack of modern knowledge and education amongst us. We
can not do much about the educators, educational facilities, or educational
curricula -- but we can help the students. It is more important now than
ever before to do whatever we can to encourage and assist these young
people in acquiring knowledge of modern sciences and technologies. This
also requires character building -- an overhaul of their attitudes towards
education, improvements in work ethics, and introduction to selflessness.
An individual course is not likely to make much difference, but together
we can bring about important changes in the lives of these young men and
women. In the words of Allama Iqbal:
khaam hai, jub tuk tu hai mattee ka ek ambaar tu
pukhta ho jaey, to hai shamsheer-e be-zanhaar tu
If you are interested in teaching an intensive 6-day course, or a 3-day
workshop, on western lines as part of this program, kindly contact the
Program Coordinator by e-mail or phone (at 1-780-449-6059),
and we can discuss your plans. At this stage a firm commitment is not
required but only an indication of interest would be sufficient. A definitive
program will, however, be put together around the end of July. The purpose
of this advance posting is to allow you sufficient time to make your plans
for the Fall. It should be stressed that the program covers not just sciences
and medicine but other areas of knowledge as well, and all qualified instructors
desirous of helping AMU students would be welcome.
As always, we extend a very warm welcome to our former instructors who
have so selflessly devoted their time and energy to the SU program in
the past.
