Bokonism is based on the fictional religions of Kurt Vonnegut's story Cat's Cradle.  The premise is to live a life based on untruths called foma . By believing in these lies you will lead a happy life.

In the novel, the founder is named Bokonon (born Lionel Blyod Johnson).
