During the summer of 2008 a friend of mine and I drove from Edmonton as far as Tok, Alaska, partially for research and partially for pleasure. We began planning for the trip in February, and I remember that gas prices were a major factor in our planning, and for good reason; oil prices skyrocketed that year.

Our main stay was in Whitehorse, Yukon, where we were hosted by some very gracious and informative Yukoners. I am truly thankful for all of the encouragement and critique that I received on the journey, and, of course, for a dry spot on their couch out of the rain. Many thanks to Sarah Mowat and her family!

Special thanks to Jeffrey Sloychuk for his navigation skills, stellar contacts, and help with the photos. We took hundreds of photos, but the following stand out in particular. Please email me if you wish to use any of these images for whatever purposes - I’m glad to share, but please do cite me if you find use for the images.
