Experiments are performed by students to demonstrate some basic principles of stratified and rotating flow dynamics.

Beta-Plane:
demonstrating the effect of a bottom slope or the curvature of the Earth on large-scale rotating fluid flows
 
 
Double Diffusion:
demonstrating layering in density stratified fluids due to competing effects of salt and heat diffusion
 
 
Ekman Pumping:
demonstrating how surface stress affects mixing in rotating fluids
 
 
Gravity Currents in a 2-Layer Fluid:
demonstrating the generation of waves due to an intrusion of dense saline water.
 
 
Gravity Currents on a Slope:
demonstrating the flow of dense saline water down an incline
 
 
Salt Fingers:
demonstrating the evolution of hot, saline water overlying cold fresh water
