A two-tiered approach to policy and decision-making was implemented. The University of Alberta Northern Research Committee (UANRC) involves experts from many disciplines at the UA in order to promote inter- and multidisciplinary research. The Advisory Board includes three to six members from external arenas, appointed to represent various communities in the north and associations, agencies, or organizations having northern interests.
