Thilan Liyanage joined the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta in September 2008. He is a Master of Science student and will be completing his degree in September 2010.
Thilan holds a Bachelor of Materials Engineering degree from the University of Toronto and his area of research for his MSc degree is the characterization of NiCrBSi-WC MMC materials welded by PTAW for the oil sands industry. Before joining UofA in 2008, Thilan attended the University of Toronto where his final year research project was on the characterization of Mg-DP600 steel friction stir spot welds. Thilan also has two publications in the areas of welding and surface coatings technology.
Thilan enjoys spending time with family and friends, and playing a variety of sports such as basketball and soccer.
