Steven began his involvement at CCWJ as an undergraduate completing a Dean's Research Award. As an undergraduate he was involved in research of high strength welding consumables and friction stir welding. He enjoyed research so much that after completing his BSc in Materials Engineering in 2011 at the University of Alberta he joined the CCWJ as a Masters student. His current research is centred on chromium-carbide overlays. He is working on increasing the wear properties, and productivity of these overlays.
Steven was born in Alberta, but moved around quite a bit growing up. He has lived in Louisiana, Belize and Nova Scotia. Perhaps this is the reason that he has always enjoyed travelling, whether it's a weekend in the Rockies or a few weeks in Thailand. When he isn't busy with his studies he is trying to stay active playing floor hockey, snowboarding, and lifting weights.
