This course will consider various approaches, definitions, principles and practices that have been applied to frame a discussion of culturally appropriate research methodologies for Indigenous peoples. The sessions will explore both empirical and interpretative research methodologies within the context of Indigenous research ethics, paradigms and strategies and a general review of related historical and theoretical analyses. The discussion will be structured in the context of the relationship between formal research and the lived experiences of Indigenous peoples.
This course has strong practical application in the development of research proposals and methodologies and may incorporate the planning, organizing and undertaking of a research activity within the course structure.
