The Intensive Russian Programme of Dalhousie University

AvroraThe oldest one of its kind in Canada, is a special inter-disciplinary programme of instruction which allows Dalhousie students (as well as students from other Canadian universities) to undertake intensive study of the Russian language, both in Canada and in Russia. In order to participate, students must demonstrate competence in the Russian language equivalent to at least two full years of university classes with a mark of "B" or better. The duration of the programme is one academic year, the first half of which is at Dalhousie, or some other Canadian university, the second half (i.e., February to June) is presented at St. Petersburg State University. Designed to enhance students' practical language skills with a direct experience of Ukrainian life and culture, this course uses various current materials from contemporary popular culture and makes maximum use of the urban L'viv environment to expand vocabulary and comprehension. The language of instruction is Ukrainian. In order to participate, students must demonstrate a level of proficiency equivalent to two years of study at the university level.
