This afternoon the lab hosted visiting students participating in the first annual neuroscience research symposium "NeuroPosium". The visit, organized by NeuroReach, took groups of high school students to tour multiple neuroscience labs across the University of Alberta. NeuroReach is a U of A student group with the aim of exposing neuroscience research to high school students with a special focus on traditionally underrepresented groups in neuroscience. We set up workstations demonstrating our techniques in EMG, reflexes and kinesthesia and had a great time!

The Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation hosts the 2024 Faculty Research Day at the University of Alberta. Cavan, Cassia and Jonah presented their posters from FURCA (see March 12 entry for poster titles). Cavan won first place in the undergraduate poster category and has been invited to present it at the Faculty's Graduate Student Retreat & Conference, ReCON!

The 25th Annual Neuroscience Research Day is held today at the Lister Center at the U of A. Jess, Jocelyn and Morgan will be presenting posters at this event. See pictures here.

Jess: Can stimulation of skin make you think your fingers are moving?
Jocelyn: Muscle & Spinal Stimulation: Are two better than one?
Morgan: The effects of Spinal Stimulation Frequency on Central Nervous System Excitability and Torque when coupled with Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation.

The U of A is celebrating the achievements of undergraduate research at the Festival of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (FURCA) held in the Student's Union Building on campus over the next three days. The undergraduate students in our lab presented posters for this event! See pictures here.

Dhiman: Does multi-site stimulation increase synaptic strength in neural pathways in humans?
Cavan: The effects of transcutaneous spinal cord stimulation on torque produced during functional electrical stimulation.
Cassia: Can spinal cord stimulation increase reflexes (and contractions) produced by functional electrical stimulation?
Jonah: When Combining Spinal Stimulation and Nerve Stimulation, Does Timing Matter?
Morgan: The effects of spinal stimulation frequency on the central nervous system and movement.

Happy new year! New to the lab are practicum students Cavan Chong and Cassia Čulo. Jonah and Dhiman return to pursue directed studies. The team will be busy with all aspects of research, from running experiments to analyzing the data. This term Morgan will collect data to defend his undergraduate thesis for his Honors Neuroscience project.
