Goethe In The End

• After his second trip to Rome, Goethe decides to prolong his stay in order to continue his artistic pursuits such as painting.
• Goethe decides to reinvent himself as an artist in order to find peace within himself.
• Goethe returns to Weimar in 1788.
• Finds it hard to adjust and no longer goes back to office
• The reason: a new philosophy is developed in Goethe’s mind as a result of his Italian journey where ‘the purpose of life is life itself’(Haile, 185).
