• August 2009: Our paper on the Klondike goldfields and Pleistocene environments just came out in GSA Today- the monthly member's magazine of the Geological Society of America.  Its open access and includes a cover image of the Quartz Creek mammoth from the Klondike.
• June 2009:  NSERC-makes a new investment in our group through the Discovery grant, equipment grant to build new freezers for permafrost core storage and analysis, and their new Accelerator Supplement
• January 2009:  Kristen Kennedy successfully defended her MSc thesis and has taken a position with the Yukon Geological Survey.    
• December 2008: Alberta Ingenuity, a major supporter of the Froese lab has organized
Polar Science Cafe for Dec. 2nd at the Good Earth Cafe next to the University of Alberta Campus.  
• November 2008:  The Whitecourt Meteor Impact paper was recently published in Geology.  It got a fair bit of coverage, including a nice story in the Globe and Mail, and another in Science News.  
• September 2008: Our paper on ancient permafrost and a future warmer Arctic was published in Science.  Below is some of the media coverage:

• September 2008: We had Charles Choi from Scientific American with us in the field this past June.  Read his blogs about the Klondike -including some photos of and videos - or perhaps check out his Field Notes in the September issue of the magazine.
• April 2008:  Britta Jensen received an NSERC Canada Graduate Scholarship for her PhD in our lab; while Fabrice Calmels received an NSERC PDF.  These two awards are probably the toughest to get from NSERC. Well done.  
• February 2008: The main paper from Britta Jensen's MSc. thesis just came out in Quaternary Science Reviews
• September 2007: Elizabeth Hall, our resident Quaternary vertebrate person has joined the lab to finally complete an MSc. on middle Pleistocene mammals from northern Yukon (and a bit of tephra work related to the fossils)
• August 2007: Dr. Fabrice Calmels has joined the lab from Laval University to work on permafrost dynamics in central and northern Yukon Territory.
  
• April 2007: Dr. Svetlana Kuzmina has joined the lab to work on paleoenvironmental reconstructions of Beringian interglacials using insect fossils.
• April-June 2007: Britta Jensen, Simon Robinson and Mike Davies have defended their MSc. theses.
• March 2007:
YNNK International Polar Year Project is funded for work in the Old Crow Flats of Northern Yukon Territory.
• March 2007: Dr. Stephen Kuehn has joined the lab to work in tephrochronology, and in particular to lead the development of trace-element characterization of distal tephra beds with ICP-MS
