HPLC involves liquid chromatography at elevated pressures. Salivary diamines are derivatized to allow detection through absorption in the ultraviolet. Derivatization can assist in chromatographic separation. Here we are using a pre-column and a short reversed-phase separating column.

HPLC is a highly versatile approach for effective separation of biologically-important substances in secretions such as saliva.

This is a resource shared with Dr. Dan Pehowich in our department.
