Welcome to Formula SAE at the University of Alberta

Formula SAE is an international engineering student competition that allows students to design and fabricate a small, high performance race car. The competition is held under the premise that the students work as design engineers for a manufacturing firm that wishes to mass produce a weekend autocross racer. The students are challenged to use their knowledge and creativity to build a high performance and marketable car within the frame and engine restrictions specified by Formula SAE. Each year, over 80 teams from around the world gather to share a wealth of knowledge and join in some friendly competition. The vehicles are judged on the design, aesthetics, cost analysis, performance and marketability of the cars. The final product must not only have excellent performance characteristics but must also be visually appealing and economical to promote sales to the non-professional racer.
