| What
follows was originally presented at the 37th International
Congress on Medieval Studies, Kalamazoo MI, on Friday 3 May
2002, as part of a session in honour of the late Martin Stevens
entitled “The Towneley Plays Reconsidered.” The session was heavily
attended, and a good time was had by all. You should have been
there ... not to mention the annual Medieval
and Renaissance Drama Society business meeting that followed.
If you aren't one already, become a member
of MRDS.
The real
attraction of the session was not my work but that of the other
participants: Barbara D Palmer of Mary Washington College, who
dealt with the external records (and the lack thereof), and Alexandra
F Johnston, my own former supervisor at the University of Toronto,
who presented material sent to her by the esteemed Malcolm Parkes
of Keble College, Oxford University, as well as her own stuff,
on the manuscript itself; Lawrence Clopper delivered a fine “Tribute
to Martin Stevens.”
Here all
you get is me.
What you will (or can) read here is pretty much what they got
at the Congress, with the addition of a few pictures, notes and
references, and links both internal and external. But go ahead,
