Volunteer for HSMUN 2012

The University of Alberta High School Model United Nations is organized by a diverse group of University of Alberta students. While the conference is hosted by the Department of Political Science, our volunteer staff has included representation from the faculties of Arts, Science, Engineering, Medicine and Dentistry, Pharmacy, ALES and Education. Many of our current volunteers (including this year's Secretary-General) are themselves past High School Model United Nations delegates.

Every year, we look for more students to become involved in the organization of the event. If you are interested in international relations, enjoy meeting new people, and working as a team then volunteering for us may be a rewarding experience for you. Information about applying for current volunteer positions can be found below and in our recruitment poster.

Application Process

The application process for HSMUN 2012 is now closed. The registration deadline is September 16th.

Please complete the volunteer application form (pdf) (word) and email it to hsmun@ualberta.ca or slide it under the door of T 15-09.

Volunteer Positions

Volunteer positions are broken down into four major groupings; dais, diplomatic intervention, news and diplomatic aides. To learn more about specific positions and how the conference staff operate, please read the following document: HSMUN 2012 Staff Positions.

Staff Expectations

While HSMUN is only a three day event, the majority of the work is done before the conference. In order to clarify what we wish to accomplish with the conference, we have put together a brief list of expectations that we hope both volunteer staff and executive members will abide by.

Reasons Why Volunteering for HSMUN is Awesome

A good majority of our staff are either returning members and/or past delegates of HSMUN themselves. This high return rate correlates directly to the amount of fun that we have every year in hosting the conference. HSMUN never fails to amuse and is often the beginning of wonderful friendships. Plus, it can be a true learning experience and many of our staff who come from disciplines outside of Arts find it refreshing to spend time discussing the foibles of presidents and international organizations rather than the intricacies of cell biology (not that there's anything wrong with that or that we haven't, on occassion, found that to be integral to debates, particularly those in the WHO!). The main reason our conference is so successful is because of our enthusiastic staff, and few regret taking time to be a part of the conference.

Executive Committee

The executive committee for HSMUN 2012 is as follows:
