| Welcome to Ian Cleary's Website.
Since I have graduated and this account will expire some time this fall my webiste has moved to http://www.clearyhome.com please update your bookmarks. July 3, 2006 Finished! My thesis defense on June 19 went well, although there were so many questions that it's mostly a blur now. Last week I finished the printing of my thesis and after having it approved submitted it for binding. I've completed all the paperwork so now I'm officially done this degree. I still have a few things to clear up at work, and stacks of paper to recycle. I had a lot of fun in April and May in between finishing writing my thesis and defending. February 21, 2006 Light at the end of the tunnel. I'm nearly finished my thesis at last, and I'm planning to take some time to recharge the batteries before diving back into research. As my time at the UofA draws to a close I'm also looking for a new place to host my website. Links and redirections will appear when I've found somewhere. April 4, 2005 It's been a long while since my last news update, and that's because it's been crazyily busy. A couple more questions to write, and things to mark, but the end of the term is approaching again. On with the news. I'm published now - second author on a paper about alternative oxidase reguation in the January edition of Genetics. Follow the link here to read the abstract. Now for an update on the GSC conference in Banff. There was fresh snow in Banff, but it wasn't too cold. I heard some good talks and had a chance to relax and get away from work for a few days. I also won for best student talk, so all in all a good time. January 10, 2005 Welcome to another new year everyone. This will be my last year TAing Genetics 418 at the UofA, and if I'm extrememly lucky my last calendar year on campus. I'm sorry to say that the G&S parody website that I found moved or shut down, but I managed to copy a few of the submissions before it vanished into the ether. In travel news I'll be attending the Genetics Society of Canada conference in exotic Banff this year. Not that I'm knocking Banff, but you don't exactly brag about traveling four hours by car to attend a conference. There are some excellent speakers at this year's conference.
Most of the rest of the information on this page is semi-biographical and not all of it changes very often. But you may want to skim it anyway. This is the page on my website to find breaking news about Ian. I've finished a PhD in Dr. Nargang's lab in Genetics at the University of Alberta. Nothing too exciting in terms of lab news, although until you've worked in a lab you have no idea how much work goes into those apparently simple figures. As always please check out my writings page for some of my opinions on things about which I want to opine. Isn't the web great? My Extended Essay, "A Comparison of the Portrayal of the Character of the King in Edward II and Richard II" it can be found there as well.
