>> Assorted musings on science and Ecology  Although I've been interested in the natural world for as long as I can remember, it's only in the last few years that I've pursued that interest within the scientific framework of Ecology. At the same time, perhaps because my interest in the big picture of living things predates my immersion in the nuts and bolts of science, I'm often as struck by the philosophical aspects of Ecology as I am by the science. In the end, I think there's a place for both.

An alpine grass... Recent efforts

Here are some recent ramblings on Ecology, inspired by whatever happened to cross my path at the time. Some are more philosophical, while others are summaries of new ecological ideas I thought were interesting—I find trying to explain new concepts to others can help consolidate my own understanding.

Most pictures were taken in the course of my fieldwork, with either an Olympus C740 or a Pentax K10D, and all but the picture of the caterpillar, which was taken by my colleague Dave Roth with a Panasonic FZ20, were taken by me.
