Feodor Lynen Fellowships

As a former Alexander von Humboldt Fellow, I am eligible to host Feodor Lynen Fellows. The Feodor Lynen Fellowship is awarded to young German scientists who want to gain postdoctoral research experience abroad. Please contact me if you are interested.

Vanier Scholarships

The Canadian government has recently announced a very generous new scholarship to attract exceptional international graduate students. The application process requires that the prospective student be nominated by the host University. If you are a strong student and interested in pursuing doctoral work here, please take a look at the program details and get in touch.

New Graduate Students

I may have an opening for one new student in my group. Whether you're already here and as yet unafilliated or considering applying to U of A, I'm very happy to talk about my research and about potential MSc and PhD projects.

There are no constraints on my committing to Canadian students who have their own financial support (e.g., Canada Graduate Scholarships).

Undergraduate Summer Students

I sometimes like to hire an undergraduate research assistant for the summer. The ideal candidate is a mathematically-inclined student who has (i) an interest in theoretical physics, (ii) at least one quantum mechanics course under her belt, and (iii) a strong background in (preferably C++) programming.

I strongly encourage students to submit an application to NSERC's Undergraduate Student Research Awards Program. The internal deadline for next summer is February 2010.

Undergraduate Special Projects

I am very willing to talk to students about supervising Phys 499 projects.
