Dr. Margaret Mackey is currently a Professor at the School of Library and Information Studies, at the University of Alberta.

She holds a Killam Annual Professorship at the University of Alberta for the year 2009-2010.

Margaret Mackey researches, writes, and teaches in the interdisciplinary field of young people's literacy and literature in both print and other media.  Her research interests include: 

• reading processes
• interpretive approaches to print, graphic, digital and media texts
• children's and young adult literature
• popular culture and young people
• commodities and merchandising for youth
