Background: I’m an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation at the University of Alberta. I grew up in Wales, and did my undergraduate degree in Geography with Physical Education and Sport Sciences at Loughborough University, England. Then I did my MSc in Exercise and Sport Psychology at Exeter University, England, and my PhD at the University of Alberta.
Work Experience: Since completing my PhD in 2002 I worked at Leeds Metropolitan University (England), Brock University (Ontario), before returning to the University of Alberta in July 2004.
Research: My research focused on psychosocial aspects of youth sport and physical activity, including children’s and adolescents’ interactions with peers and their families. I am also interested in qualitative research methodologies. I am also an Associate Editor for The Sport Psychologist and recently edited a book titled “Positive Youth Development Through Sport.”
Other Interests:
I like to run

Background: I am
in my third year of my PhD in the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation at the University of Alberta. Prior to starting my PhD I completed my undergraduate degree in Sport and Exercise Sciences and my masters degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology at Loughborough University. I also spent a year at the University of Massachusetts on a tennis scholarship.
Work Experience: I am currently teaching an advanced tennis course in the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation. I am also working as a tennis coach, coaching children aged 4-8 and also assisting the University of Alberta Pandas tennis team. I also work as a sport psychology consultant with a number of individual athletes and teams in Edmonton.
Research: My research focuses upon understanding parents’ experiences of youth sport, parent-coach interactions and athletes experiences of parental behaviours. I have recently completed a study examining Tennis players' preferences for parental behaviours at tournaments, which has provided information to guide parents' involvement in youth sport.
Other Interests: When I’m not researching or coaching I try and spend as much time as I can playing tennis and keeping fit. I enjoy staying in touch with my family and friends but I’m also enjoying spending time getting to know a new country and meeting new people.
