Interpretation of Antigen Typing Results

• The positive control was positive

• The negative control was negative

• After the addition of IgG sensitized cells, the tests that were initially negative showed agglutination.

If so, the tests on the patient and donor cells can be taken as valid. For example, if the p[atient's K typing test showed no agglutination, then the patient's red cells are negative for the K antigen.

Any donor unit that types as antigen negative and is also negative in all phases of the crossmatch can now be released for transfusion.
