June 18, 1999 Belated thanks Thinking that I am faster on my feet than I am, I came to a recent celebration of my retirement from the library system without prepared remarks. As a consequence I got caught up in the jocular atmosphere of the event and neglected to make two serious and important points in my speech. The first is that the library has been a wonderful place to work mostly because of wonderful colleagues. The second is that if the management skills of the head of the Humanities and Social Sciences Library were common and widespread, management consultants would be out of business. Alas, Debbie Dancik is one of a kind.
Sincerely, Alan Rutkowski |
