Pediatric radiology fellowship
The Department of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging at the
University of Alberta is pleased to offer a one-year fellowship
in Pediatric Radiology, starting 01 July 2003. The fellowship
takes place in a very active tertiary and quaternary pediatric
practice situated at the Stollery Children's Hospital.
The centre is situated at the University of Alberta and the
Royal Alexandra hospitals and is the referral site for the
northern portions of the western provinces and the Northwest
Territories. Two neonatal intensive care units with 75 beds
with ECMO and ECLS; one pediatric intensive care unit with
14 beds, a pediatric emergency unit; heart, lung, kidney,
and liver transplantation programs exist.
We are the home of the Pediatric Western Canadian Cardiac
Centre, with two pediatric cardiac surgeons. The pediatric
radiology fellowship has training in general radiography;
fluoroscopy; ultrasound; cardiac angiography; neuro, body,
musculoskeletal, cardiac, and chest CT; and neuro, body, musculoskeletal,
cardiac and chest MR.
This is a fellowship with extensive hands-on experience in
the clinical workload including all interventional procedures.
Four full time and two part-time fellowship-trained pediatric
radiologists along with various fellowship trained subspecialists
in body imaging, ultrasound, musculoskeletal radiology, and
neuroradiology provide teaching.
The two major referral centers include five G.E. helical CT
scanners, including multi-slice scanners, three Siemens 1.5
Tesla Symphony/Sonata MRI units, multiple state of the art
general purpose and vascular ultrasound machines, and a dedicated
pediatric pulsed fluoroscopy suite.
Opportunities for research and teaching residents and medical
