I am a professor in the Department of Elementary Education at the University of Alberta where I have held a position since 1995. My area of specialization is social studies education. Most of the research that I have been doing since coming to the U of A has been in the area of preparing teacher candidates to use computer technologies in ways that support and enhance children’s learning in social studies. I am also interested in how technologies such as videoconferencing can help teacher candidates to better understand what it means to teach social studies.
I am currently engaged in a videoconferencing partnership with a Grade 4 teacher and her students in which my undergraduates get to interact with the children in this classroom while they are “doing” social studies.
