Sikh Students' Society
Sat Sri Akal!
The purpose of our organization is to initiate, facilitate and maintain greater interaction and awareness about Sikh pride, religion, history, language and culture amongst Sikh youth. We will promote our purpose by establishing an open, accessible, supportive environment for Sikhs to learn about their heritage and faith, and what it means to them.
Our fundamental belief is to be accessible to ALL Sikh youth -- equally approachable to youth with varying levels of awareness with regards to Sikh heritage and religion. Nurturing the growth of one's knowledge about Sikhism is paramount in relation to their actual knowledge. This is a common base from which we wish to grow.
Our goal is to provide an environment for open communication, in order to learn from each other about Sikhism. What it means to them? What they would like it to mean to them? What is the role of religion in their day to day life? The role of the Sikh Student Society is to help youth attain the answers to their many questions.
We hope to build this environment by creating a strong bond through participation in community activities, volunteer work, and open discussions. By creating these bonds we also develop a community which can learn about Sikhism, its language, history, culture, and most importantly the Sikh religion.
We have a lot of ideas and events planned, some of which include: Community involvement in the forms of Blood Drives, Habitat for Humanity, organizing sports camps & leagues for kids, sports tournaments on campus, peer tutoring, spiritualism discussions, langars at Gurdwaras, Punjabi lessons, paath on campus, Sikhism conference focusing on issues affecting our generation living in the western world, formal dinner galas, movie nights, Vaisakhi celebrations, mirch eating championships, pabhi competitions.. We want to hear from you on what you would like to see, our fundamental belief is about being open to everyone, we are always going to focus on organizing activities that appeal to both the major facets of Sikhism -- culturally and religiously.
The Club is open to all individuals interested in Sikhism, Sikhs and non-Sikhs alike.
Sat Sri Akal,
