Solar Observing: Thursdays 12 - 1pm

Evening Observing
September : Thursday evenings, 9 - 10pm
October: Thursday evenings, 8 - 9pm
November: Thursday evenings, 7 - 8pm
December: Thursday evenings, 7 - 8pm

December 4 will be the last evening that we'll be open to the public in 2014. We'll open up for public observing again on Thursday Janurary 8, 2015!

The U of A Observatory is operated by the Department of Physics at the University of Alberta. We're located at the West end of the 5th floor of the CCIS Building. We provide free outreach activities for the public through our regular free observing hours as well as special visits for school groups and other education-oriented groups.

Free Public Lectures

Most Thursday evening public observing sessions will start off with a short public lecture. For a list of the public lectures planned for this semester, please click here!.

Group Visits

School groups and other education-oriented groups can book a private visit. These visits are free of charge. Please contact us at least one month before your anticipated visit date since there is high demand for these visits and we have limited availability.

Teachers should note that the Sky Scan outreach program is designed to help bring real science activities to Grade 6 and 9 science classes.
